I have a Compaq Presario 2200 running Windows 2000 SP4, a low end pretty raw machine used for Internet browsing only, which is having wireless connection issues.

Symptoms:
upon a reboot the unit can not see any wireless networks. As you click onto the wireless icon to connect, the message stating Windows is not configured to connect......Start your Wireless Zero Configuration.....

Have done:
I have gone into the Sevices, restarted the Wireless Zero Service and set it to Automatic so it should be starting upon a reboot. Additionaly, I have gone into the Wireless Networks and selected to use Windows and it can refresh and find our network.

Now. Why do I have to perform those steps EVERY time the machine is restarted?

Stumped..... Thanks in advance.

Did you install the software that came with your wireless card?

this is a new symptom, the machine had worked previously for years.

The broadcom drivers are loaded for the built-in wireless.

Perhaps re-installing it will help.....

any other thoughts?

I would check the add/remove programs, and look for any programs used for wireless networks. Many programs will diasble microsofts to use their own.

looked there already. I downloaded the broadcom package for this laptop model to reload and will see what happens. Unfortunately I can not get to the machine until Tuesday. It's not mine... I'll let you all know if it is the fix.

I hope so, but I don't think so. I see traces of Linksys in the registry and will remove them if the new driver package doesn't help... didn't want to jump right to the registry...

thanks for your input, any others???

Tom
