Hi,

I'm currently experiencing an odd problem with my wireless connection dropping out regularly which is proving very frustrating.

I have two PCs in my room setup through a KVM both of which are experiencing the same problem.

PC 1:
Medion 8818
Ralink RT73 USB Wireless LAN Card

PC 2:
Custom build
Netgear WG111T 108Mbps Wireless USB2.0 Adapter

Both connecting to my wireless router:
Netgear 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Router DG834GT

Now here is where the confusion arises. I would normally have expected the drop out to have been router related but I'm not sure that it is. I can constantly ping the router gateway 192.168.0.1 with no dropped packets at all. Though at the same time if I try to constantly ping the Gateway IP address 212.74.111.147 this is where the packets are dropped and the internet stops working. I have 2 other computers on the network with no problems. They can ping both IPs constantly with no problems.

I should say that I also have a second cabled network set up for my 2 PCs via a Netgear FR328S. These are connected through a different gateway 192.168.1.1 as apposed to 192.168.0.1 for the wireless network and I don't see that this could cause the problems that I'm experiencing.

My research had led me to WZC service though I'm not intirely convinced.

Any help/advice/assistance would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance

Ed

Can you attach one one of the spurious wireless pc's to the wired network to see if they can then ping the 212.xx.xx.xx address?

This was supposed to be the future.....Where is my JetPack?!

If you have two routers connected together (cascaded) make sure only one is set up to be the DHCP server. Disable DHCP on the second router and let it get its address from the ADSL router. DHCP conflicts can be inscrutable like this.

After reconfiguring, unplug all, wait, then plug in ADSL modem (if present), ADSL router and then the second router. Then reboot all PCs. Write down everything you do so it can be reversed.

Thanks to both of you for having a look at this.

Having disconnected the wired network, the Internet connection and ping to 212.x.x.x is working fine but when I reconnected the wired network the connection dropped off amd when I disconnected again it worked, so it certainly does appear at the moment to be linked to the 2nd network running on 192.168.1.1.

Do you have any suggestions to set this up so I can utilise both the wireless network for the internet without the constant drop outs but also the wired network so I can transfer large amounts of data between the 2 PCs?
