We have 3 computers in our house, one directly connected to the Netgear router, a laptop on wireless, and a desktop on wireless. I have secured our network and set up all of the devices for use on the network. The laptop is fine, but my desktop has problems. I always have "Very good" in the signal strength, so it is not that. For weeks now, I can be surfing the internet and suddenly it will tell me that a website cannot be contacted. If I repair the connection, or simply run ipconfig and renew my address, I can continue surfing. This is getting highly annoying now, since sometimes I have to do it after every page I visit.

I read the help about Windows XP wireless problems after windows update, but the hotfix is not listed in my program list. Are there any other suggestions>

I recently had the exact same problem in my home. Signal strength "very good" is important but preferably you'd like to see "excellent" and a throughput of 54Mbs.
When my connection droped below 30Mbs my pages would not load until I released and renewed my connection as you have had to do. (very annoying)
I corrected this problem VERY EASY by installing a wireless REPEATER next to my desktop system.
Router sends signal to the repeater nicely, repeater sends an "excellent" (and 54Mbs or better) signal to my desktop and I'm up and running nicely with no more drop offs.

I had the same problems. I had Windows XP SP1. However, after downloading the Windows update rollup package, my problem went away. Here is a link for the download.

Good luck.

My personal saying - Just remember, it can always get worse, and usually will.
