HI all,
I tried to install a wireless card in a Compaq computer which uses Windows ME. the installation went ok, but I cannot connect to the internet. I have a wireless router hooked up to one computer, and I have gone wireless on another computer. But this one just will not connect.
I thought I followed the install instructions correctly, but something is wrong. I'm using a Linksys Wireless B Router 2.4 GHz on the main computer.
After installing the card in the other computer, I set it up as follows:
SSID - linksys
Network Type - Infrastructure
Channel - 6
WEP - Disabled
IP Address - Use DHCP
Subnet Mask - (Blank)
Gateway - (Blank)
DNS - (Blank)
When it asks me to save the settings, I say 'Yes" The I get a pop up box saying "Failed to change device Configuration."
the connect and refresh buttons are greyed out and I cannot use them.
Am I doing this all wrong?
I can really use your help. Thanks.

Im not a techy guy but what i know is:
if you're using winXP you have to do wireless zero configuration first(on the presumption that your w card supports, in most cases these cards do)
so that the wireless card will be able to detect the wireless router

If its not XP, there should be something like a client manager software that needs to be installed first before your wireless card detects available networks

hope this helps

Hi,
I'm not sure what zero configuration is. I just set it up according to the instructions given on the sheet. Can you guide me through it?

WinXP
wireless zero configuration is just a feature of winXP. In XP, control panel//administrative tools/services/wireless zero configuration. on the box, set startup type to automatic, hit apply and click startup under service status and click ok.(at this point WZC has started) and then you can configure youre wireless card on the Network connections window

since youre using windows ME, i believe the cd installer that comes with your router includes a "client manager software"(call Linksys tech support if you dont know where to find it) that needs to be installed, run and configure before your wireless card could detect your wireless router
