I just set up a wireless network in my home. I have a linksys wireless b router. I have two computers on the network. 1 desktop w/ win 2000 pro, 1 laptop w/ win xp pro. The desktop connects via a cable. The laptop can connect via cable or internal wireless card.

If I connect the laptop via a network cable, everything works fine. I can share files between the compters and the internet works fine. However, Im having problems with the wireless connection. The wireless internet works fine. However, I can't see the desktop through the wireless connection. If I try to brouse the network, I cant even see the workgroup i have set up.

It sounds to me like there is some property on the laptop or in the router that needs to be changed, but Im not sure where to start.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue when I first got my wireless set up, for me enabling the WEP encryption solved things.

Can you ping the AP or a device on the wired part of your network with a wireless device?
Look for a setting in your AP that prevents wireless to wireless connections. The Cisco units we've been getting are coming with that turned on for security reasons. You didn't mention what model/version linksys you had so I wasn't able to see if that was an option on your unit.

Sorry for the late reply on this. But better very late than never. I tried adding the WEP encription. That didn't solve the problem. The router did have a setting to restrict network access for wireless devices. I made sure that the restriction was enabled and my laptop had permission. This didnt solve the problem either. Then I had to put this problem asside for two weeks.

Today we changed DSL providers. The old service was set with PPPoE. I had to change the setting to "Obtain an IP Automatically". This change fixed my networking problem.

Thanks again for your replies and sorry for taking so long to follow up.
