Hello all have installed a Beklin wireless router with dsl modem. I have connected the router with no problems and can access the interent. The fun really begins when I try to add a wireless bridge. When I connect the wireless bridge directly to the router and configure it, using a web interface, I set the wireless to use the DCHP server on the router and it does nothing. I can statically assign the bridge an IP address with my range and I still can't ping the bridge. Any cunning plans would be much obliged -thanks.

It is not unusual for a bridge adapter not to respond to ICMP requests. (You can quess this is likely the case if it does not support a web-based setup unless directly connected to a workstation).

The more important question is whether it works in your setting. Does it, or are you having issues?

Thanks for your reply bcastner unfortunately I come from a voice background and I'm not too good at this data malarky! When you say work in my setting? - I've tried statically assigning the bridge with a IP address within my range and I still can't ping it. I haven't tried disabling DHCP and statically assigning every device with an IP address. Can you send a ping over a wireless network?

What is a ICMP request?

Thanks again for you response I really would like to get this stupid contraption working after stumping up the cash for the thing i think its a shame if I result to blasting it across the street! Thanks again.

Ping is one type of ICMP traffic.
You can ping in a wireless setting. My point was that some bridge devices will not answer you back.

Of more immediate concern is whether the bridge device can connect to your router successfully. Make sure the SSID, Channel number, and any WEP or WPA settings are identical to your router, and that the IP you assign does not conflict with any other device on the network.

Afternoon bcastner,

Thanks again for your response. I'm sure the SSID and channel numbers are identical and that there is no IP address conflict. I've also for the time being turned off any encyrption. The bridge has the WLAN LED lit but I can't ping the blighter. How can I test the bridge's connectivity other than pinging it?

Plug it into the ethernet jack of any workstation.
