I currently have one F5D7231-4 router setup in my home which gives out a wireless internet connection to all my pc's. I have recently purchased a PC that doesn't have wireless capabilites but does have an Ethernet port. So, I bought a second F5D7231-4 router which I would like to use as an wireless access point (as the PC will be located away from the main router) and then use one of it's LAN ports to give the PC an internet connection.

I downloaded the PDF instruction manual for this router from and tried to get the setup (which is exactly the same as the diagram on page 66) configured. So far I have:

Router #1 - The router which has the internet connection

IP: 192.168.2.1
Wireless Channel 11
SSID = Belkin54g
Security Mode = WPA-PSK (PSK = "belkintest")
Enable Wireless Bridging = On

Router #2 - The router which will be the access point

IP: 192.168.2.254
Wireless Channel 11
SSID = Belkin54g
Security Mode = WPA-PSK (PSK = "belkintest")
Enable Wireless Bridging = On
Use as Access Point = Enabled

If I have a cable from a LAN port on Router #1 going to the WAN port on Router #2, I can connect wirelessly to the access point from any PC and get an internet connection. However, if I remove this cable (as I obviously want to move Router #2 to elsewhere in the house) I lose this internet connection (but can still connect to Router #2).

What settings do I have to change to enable Router #2 to wirelessly pick up the internet connection from Router #1?

You cannot use the router as an bridge from one pc to the other. When using as Access point it means you currently have one router setup running DHCP and this router will be wired into the first only giving computers an wirless access point into the wired network. You need to purchase a USB networking card for the second PC or a range extender.

When frustrated remember, in the computer world there is almost always a backdoor.

I don't want to bridge one pc to another, I just want the second router to pick up the wireless connection from the first and then be able to transmit that internet connection out via it's LAN port.

The setup that I want, is exactly the same as it mentions on page 66 in the manual from my first post, a screen shot of which looks like this:

So, is it possible with two Belkin F5D7231-4 routers to get this setup? The manual suggests it is so I must have set something up incorrectly.

I don't want to bridge one pc to another.... So dont set "Enable Wireless Bridging = ON" in the first router! Make sure DHCP is DISABLED in the second router, and I'd set its IP to 192.168.1.2. Get it working first WITHOUT having WEP enabled.

OK, I'll try it without enabling this option. I'm a bit confused as to why this would work though as it seems to be contrary to both the manual and the above image which has "Wireless Bridge Link" written between the two routers. When I said "I don't want to bridge one pc to another", I was meaning that it's not the pc's that I want bridging, it's the routers. Perhaps I should have said "I don't want to bridge one pc to another, I want to bridge Router #1 to Router #2".

OK, I'll disable this.

Seems sensible, I'll disable the security just to make sure this isn't affecting anything.
