Hi all...

not really an Apple user (because i cant afford their stuff not cause i dont like it)

but my MD has baught an iPhone, MacBook and Time Capsule...
The problem he is having is that his iPhone (he didnt mention the MacBook) cant connect to the Time Capsule from his office in the other side of his house (yes its a big house)

he is asking if there is a 'booster' for it...

any suggestions??

(i have seen a wireless keyboard hack once were they used an antenna from a wireless router and gave the Keyboard a range of 15 meters now i dont want to hack into the time capsule but anything that will help)

Well, sounds like it has its own built-in router, from the product page description - I had no idea what it was before.

But really, if he's not getting a signal, and it's wireless N, then I'd suggest it's on his iPhone's end, or else something in the middle is blocking/messing-up the signal.

I had a family, about a year ago now, who had trouble getting wireless signal from one end of their house to the other. We installed a Wireless N router, b/c they had an older wireless G. This was an excellennt router - DIR-655 (what I have had at home now for a couple years, myself ). We STILL couldn't get a solid signal between locations.

After some thinking, I went back over, did some looking around at the environment, and requested a change in setup. When they approved, I moved the modem and router to a different location, instantly fixing the problem. The problem? I giant brick-encased oven sat directly in line between the previous bad spot and router. After moving the modem and router, they had full wireless N signal going to both necessary locations.

good call on the location thing... but i dont know if he would be willing to move it...

its in his office (i realise i said office in the first one and i can only assume he has two) and it also has his printer and the modem attached to it...

i thought it might be something to do with his iPhone but i doubt there is anything i can do with that.

i will check... until then all suggestions are welcome.

Well, another suggestion would be a wireless bridge at some point in between to at least try and make some sort of a signal triangle. So, say there's a spot in another line that gets around whatever obstacles might be there, and you put a Wireless N bridge and/or Access Point there. The way that stuff works, you may have to use 2 devices, unless you find a good device that has both a bridge and an access point.

Actually, now I'm drooling about the possibilities of such a device as that. I was looking for something like that back before this one came out, apparently, and now - THERE IT IS. I just need an excuse, and the funds to mess around with one!

Cheers it is all looking good, and thanks for the info... have just found out that its not his Wi-Fi... its the cellular signal he is having problem with!! again its another fun lesson in how to waste time, by the MD!

i have told him there is nothing i can do with this!

tho this wireless bridge device looks good if i can get them in UK for cheap i might get one so my neighbours across road can link up wireless networks (just short of signal).

Actually, you can boost cellular signals within buildings - do a search on mobile signal repeaters. Not cheap, but then I doubt your boss is either.

There are also 'femtocells' available, but they are a way of routing mobile calls via broadband, so the networks like to charge for monthly use, even though you're using your broadband.
