I'm currently using and ADSL modem on my PC with a laptop connected using an ethernet crossover cable. Internet connection sharing works OK (well, most of the time!).
I'm looking to replace the crossover with a wireless network so I can work in the garden.
The laptop already has wireless. Can I just buy a wireless card for the PC and work in ad hoc mode or do I need a wireless access point? I need Internet connection sharing to work.

Thanks

Yes, but if it was me I would buy a USB wireless device for the desktop, the Linksys WUSB11 comes to mind.

For both wireless devices you need to set them up for adhoc mode, specify the same SSID, same channel, and WEP settings if used.

Sorry, to be thick, but yes to which part of the question:
Do I need a Wireless Access Point
or
Can I just buy a wireless adaptor

to use Internet connection sharing with an ADSL modem.

thanks

you can just buy a wireless adapter. without an AP, multiple wireless devices will communicate in ad-hoc (i.e. peer to peer) mode. <marc>[ul]help us help![li]please give us feedback on what works / doesn't[/li][li]not sure where to start? click here: faq581-3339[/li][/sup][/ul][/sup]
