Hope someone can help:

I'm trying to set up a wireless network on my two home computers. One is a PC and the other a Labtop. Both are running XP.

Instead of the basestation I'm running two adapters Microsoft Mn-510 for the PC and MN-520 for the Labtop.

The PC has a dialup internet connection. My intent is to run it in a "Ad Hoc" (computer to computer) mode.

The SSIDs are the same, network name same and channel number same.

The error I'm getting is "renewing the IP address"

Anyone familar with this process....thanks

Roger

One or both of your wireless devices is set up to retrieve an address from a DHCP server. Since you aren't running one, it cannot get an address.

Try setting up the laptop with the following:

192.168.1.1 IP address
255.255.255.252 Netmask

and the desktop with:

192.168.1.2 IP address
255.255.255.252 Netmask
192.168.1.1 Gateway

For DNS you are on your own (check your laptop settings).

Good luck!

Thank you pansopic I found the problem last night. I did not have internet sharing checked in my dial up.
