Is there a device or a adapter of some sort that I could attach to my wired router to created a wireless connection to the pcs/laptops in my house?

There a several ways to do it. You could plug a wireless access point (WAP) into your router. But most WAPs cost as much or more that a wireless router and only have one connector. Most wireless routers have four LAN connectors which gives you more places to plug in wired devices.

I have such a setup at home:
In my setup the wireless router functions a switch. Both routers are on the same subnet, and DHCP is enabled only on the wired router.
