We have 80 WinXP computers on a NT4 LAN - when a user logs on then a simple script is run via a batch file to give them shares to network drives. 5 of these users (always the same ones) will logon, but the batch file is not always executed - it is simply ignored or it it is unable to run - sadly there is not error message. Once they are up and running then they can click on the batch file manually to get their drives but it is very irritating. This never happened in the last 8 years with WinNT or Win2000. It was suggested that a firewall might be running which is giving us legacy issues at that critical moment - we are investigating this as it does appear to be a latency issue... for some reason the call of the batch file is being pushed out of the way or is timing out.. ps. also the local Windows Firewall are all off.

Any ideas?

Can these users log in from their own computers only?
If not, does the problem occur from any computer?

Hi,

I found it! Those 5 computers are a particular model of Dells (Optiplex GX260/270) and their network cards seem to have an issue with the Dell switches we have - I set the speed&duplex of the NICs to be 100mb/Half-duplex and now they are fine!

Thanks anyway!
