I have a D-Link DI-624 router. I have enabled VPN passthrough and had TCP ports 1723, 500, 50, and 51 forwarded to a WinXP machine I have set up as a VPN host. I have also added this machine to the DMZ. I am able to connect to this from outside the network, however I can not ping any machine inside the network once connected(including the VPN host itself) and therefore can not get to any of their resources. Under the properties for TCP/IP for the connection I have "Allow callers to access my local area network" checked off. Any advice as to what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

The VPN router device/PC must have access to the resources you want your VPN users to have. If you're worried about security, there are quite a few DSL routers with a VPN router in them - they greatly simplify the setup required for giving internet users VPN access.

Just because you can't ping does not necessarily mean you cannot get to them---Windows Firewall by default blocks ICMP echoes and echo replies.
