I'm building a new system and I have a question about XP. Currently I have Win98SE running on my old system and I want to put XP on my new one. Would it be better to buy the upgrade or full version?

I don't want to have to Install 98SE and then have to upgrade on top of that. I've heard that the XP upgrade CD is also full version if you have an original 98 CD key. So I would be able to Install XP full version from the XP upgrade CD with the 98SE CD key.

Thanks for any info.

As with prior "upgrade" versions of Windows, you can use the "upgrade" version to perform a full install.

Even if you wipe the hard drive on purpose first, all it will do is ask to see the earlier version CD to confirm your eligibility to use the cheaper (upgrade) CD.

Now, I haven't tried this yet, so if anyone has info to the contrary, please post it here!

I have done a "clean" install of WinXP (Home Upgrade) on a new HD, and it went very smoothly. As the previous responder stated, all you need to to is have your upgrade qualifying CD available to pop in when the XP installation asks for it.
