I am having a little problem with the search companion on WinXP. Sometimes when I click to do a search on my computer, I get an error box that says "A file needed to run search companion could not be found. You may need to run setup." The first time i got this error I did what it said and tried to run setup but it froze and WinXP needed to be reinstalled. I think this just may be a bug and I am hoping there is a fix for it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. FYI...i am using XP Professional. Thanks.

If it is any consolation I too get this problem. Are you connected to an Active Directory? I only got this issue once I had made the PC a member of an AD and only get the problem when not connected to the network. It is as if a local search path has been deleted and the required files can only be found on a network drive. Will investigate further now I know I am not the only one!

Cheers.

I also encountered this problem today. I changed nothing on my pc prior to this issue popping up. The only factor that changed was my network internet connection went down today and my computer was not connected to the internet. Since it seems that I personally didnt cause the problem, re-installing XP seems pointless, what to do?

My internet connection went back up today and now my search companion is working just fine. No error recieved with the internet connection on. This has to be a XP bug that is somehow related to the internet connection (possibly just network connections) of the pc. ???

I have an up to date IE and have also started getting the problem intermitantly when connected to the network, dispelling my search path theory. However it always happens when I am not connected.
