Aloha, while my searching for this issue showed me there are users who wish to keep the synchronize button checked, I am having the opposite problem, keeping the synchronize check box unchecked.
In September, I upgraded 10 client machines to WinXP pro(from win2k) and one server to Windows Server 2003 Standard (from windows 2k server advanced). Two of which were clean installs while the other 8 were upgrades. The issues I am encountering are not limited to the upgrade or clean install client which two of my clients are demonstrating the same issues. More about that now...
The office network is set up as a domain controller with roaming profiles. All clients are running WinXP pro. I have set/moved the "my documents" folder to the server. This makes backing up simpler for the office having everyone's data located in one central location. While the server does host the staff's "my documents", each folder is different having different access rights. The problem is the synchronizing of offline documents. While I have mapped the network drive, assigned it a "Z" drive letter (so that it doesn't interfere with upgrades in the future), My Documents were moved to the server. While the desktop icon first shows a standard XP My Documents folder icon, within minutes it changes to a different icon displaying the synchronize label located in the bottom left of the icon. Slowly all the files located within the folder shows the icon and I must then go to >Tools >Synchronize to turn off this option... When I open the folder it now called Offline My Documents.
I have tried deleting the mapped drive "Z", restoring the original location of my documents; restarting, mapping drive letter to "X" or "Y", moving the My Documents folder to an unmapped drive through the network neighborhood to the server users folder.
I have unselected the synchronize option, offline web pages. While this does solve the problem momentarily, the synchronize icons reappear and causes grief to the users.
Why does this cause grief to the users? When using word or attaching a document to Outlook, opening the My Documents folder to attach or view a file has taken up to 60 seconds to open the folder. While all the other folders open quickly.
None of the other upgraded cleints demonstrate this problem.
