Hi,

I am running an ASUS mother board, specifically A7U133, and WinXP.

I just bought a Western Digital 160 GB hard drive, and when I try to initialize and format it, it only recognizes it as having 128 GB capacity. My 2 other 80 GB drives work perfectly. I tried the drive in another machine, and it properly recognized the 160 gigs. So, I updated the BIOS on the first machine from the most recent offering from ASUS (AVU1009), hoping that it would solve the problem - but I've had no luck.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance,
Adam

Have you installed SP1? This allows XP to see 48bit addressing to see the full size of the hard drive.

actually, i havent installed it! if i install SP2, will that also install SP! for me? or do i need to install SP!, and then SP2?

many thanks!!

I'd install SP1 - do a complete backup - and then worry about SP2.

SP2 includes all of the fixes implemented in SP1. If you are planning to install SP2, there is no need to install SP1 first.
