Hi, i got a Win 2000 server, and a winxp client, i have to put into primary DNS of TCPIP config in winxp, the server's ip, the server's ip is 192.168.1.2, so in the winxp client in primary DNS i must set that ip, so the winxp client could access the shared units, and access the server in the network,
Everything was fine, the problem came when an internet conection was installed to the hub, now to have internet your primary dns must be 200.48.225.130 and the secondary 200.48.225.146, so the winxp client can have internet, this works but with this DNS cannot access the network or the server, so i must change everytime these DNS so I can work, and this is annoying me, please help me.

Install the Win2k server as an ICS HOST. The XP client should simply be set to "Obtain an IP address automaticly." With this internet connection sharing setup you will not need to change DNS settings. You do have to put a second ethernet adapter into the Win2k box:

If you are running DNS server on the Windows 2000 Server setup forwarders to point at your ISP DNS servers but keep your local clients pointing at your local DNS. To setup forwarders right click on the the main server there will be a tab with fowarders there, enter the IPs here. Your clients will no query your local dns if that cant answer the query then your local dns will forward the query to your ISP dns.

Hi, I'm very new at this stuff, so I don't know a lot of stuff, please could you be more specific, I don't know how to set the Win2k server as an ICS Host (I don't even know what this is)
And I don't know what ISP DNS is, please help me, I got a lot of doubts.

Thnx a lot

Steve Winograd has written a terrific website to explain this:
As has Helmig:
If there are further issues, please post specific error messages. One "gotcha" for many is trying to use static IPs for either the ICS Host, the clients or both. This Windows MS KB should help, but the general advice is to let everyone (Host and client) "Obtain an IP address automaticly"
