Hi, my winxp can't boot from normal mode. The swaying bar just stop.

so, i can boot into safe mode, but i can't boot into safe mode with network, or VGA mode.

any idea how i would go about it?

winxp professional sp2.

PS: popping in the CD and repair didn't work.

thanks.

In safe mode without networking, take a look at the Event Viewer to see what error there may be logged...

as it sounds like a driver has gone south and that messes up the Boot Process...

thats my guess as well, i uninstalled some like nvidia's still no go, will check the event viewer later

If Safe Mode works and Safe Mode With Networking doesn't then something to do with the Network would be the prime suspect. If the Repair Install fails then that may suggest that third party drivers are involved.

You might get further clues via Boot Logging, or the Event Viewer (ignore errors in there caused by Safe Mode), or unistalling and re-installing the Network Adapter and drivers from the Device Manager, and rebooting, if it does, and letting Windows rediscover the hardware and drivers.

Enable Boot Logging: This option enables logging when the computer is started with any of the Safe Boot options except Last Known Good Configuration. The Boot Logging text is recorded in the Ntbtlog.txt file in the %SystemRoot% folder.
