We want to now try using proper thin Winterminals to access our Citrix servers. Currently we load ICA clients onto NT4 PCs.

A query I have is what happens on an Embbed NT or CE terminal. On startup does it still have a separate logon before you can start a citrix session and then have to log on again, or does a winterm go straight to the Citrix logon?

Is there any advantages to choosing Embbed CE or Embbed NT?

Wyse have a 30day trial on their Winterms (see their web site), which I will make use off, but not sure which model to trial. Anyone know if the cheapest model (1200LE) is good enough for a full desktop session?

I haven't tried an embedded NT device, but all of the embedded CE devices seem to be pretty similar. Manufacturers tend to put in "must-have" features, but the basic ones usually perform as well as the flashy ones. I think NeoWare make a device based on embedded Linux, which is noticeably faster than the Windows based machines - but once the user is in a session, the only thing that makes a real difference is client memory (RAM and VRAM).

Any of the WYSE devices are good enough for a full desktop session - I have so far found WYSE to have provided excellent support as well. That said, I have had no problems with any other thin device manufacturer to date.

Most of the terminals have an option to "pass-through" the login details, so that the user does not have to login to both the terminal and the Session. I use the word Session, because all Windows-based terminals I have used provide the choice between a Citrix ICA connection, an RDP connection and other flavours of terminal emulation, such as VT220.

I hope this helps

The ICA CE client works well and will do what you want. The cheapest terminal with ICA client built in will do the job. You may want to future proof by making sure they are flash upgradeable.
