I am trying to log onto a new Magix R4 system remotely using spm. I have spm9 and I have logged on through the admin port at the site but I am an hour away and we need to just check the programming. I call the site and have them transfer me to *10 and I have spm set to manual. I get all the way to enter the password, I enter it and then I get the message that I lost connection, What may I be doing wrong?

I have run into this a couple of times, and instead of hitting enter after the password, clicking OK seemed to work. Also have a couple of times ran into a nosy console operator who went back in the line to see what was going on. This will boot you out too, usually. I assume no one has changed your password because you are not offered the chance to re-enter it?

I figured it out. For some reason when I hung up even after the modem went silent like it said in the book, it would still disconnect. I decided to try to keep the phone off hook and it work, I got in and checked what i needed. Thank you though. your info is good info to know though.:)

Yes - you CANNOT hang up the phone you dialed in on remotely when it is in parallel with your computer modem. I always just try to lay the receiver down gently. If you hang the receiver up - as instructed - the call will disconnect almost every time.

When the remote modem is heard, keep listening (with receiver away from ear a bit) until you hear a distinct lessening in volume level, then you may quietly place the receiver back on the phone. I do this at least 12 times a day, with seldom any problem.
