Using a Dell Optiplex GX745 Intel Core 2 CPU with 3069MB, I was able to successfully install and use WinSPM on Windows Vista Ultimate, aka MS Windows Version 6.0, Build 6000.
The beta version reportedly would not even install WinSPM (as referenced in but the final release seems OK. What Microsoft is calling their "Business" version plays well with WinSPM as well.
If someone will post the success or fail results for Home Premium, Home Basic and Enterprise, we will have a complete compatibility matrix.
I should also mention that the hardware I was using was equipped with a genuine 9-pin serial port. There have been several postings about troubles with USB to serial adapters, but it did not play a role in my testing.
