Hi.. Just changed password on pbx due to aging.
Works on terminal
Just tried WinSPM in my office and it is telling me new password is not correct. I created a new Site thinking the old site was somehow retaining the old password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,J-

If you are talking about the PASSWORD you get after you make a DIAL UP Connection, and you are CERTAIN of the change you made.

Then, double check your caps lock on your PC.

Or, (OF COURSE) go back and connect directly and see what you really did.

I hate it when that happens.

If you are referring to the password for WINSPM when you first start the program, the password can be found in the C:\Program Files\Avaya Solutions\WinSPM folder..assuming that you installed the program there. In the folder there is a config file called WinSpm. If you open it with notepad, you will see a setting for password=bwbzb or something of the like. All you need to do is go one character down for each one, such as my password in the example is avaya. Maybe this will help..maybe not. If this isnt the password you were referring to, then please follow Merlinman's advise.

This is not the program password this is the PBX password once connected via dialup.

I thought maybe my caplocks were on the pbx when I set it so tried the cap loc reversed too..... no luck

Went to the pbx with laptop in tow...
Was able to log into pbx directly for terminal with new passowrd

With laptop plugged into the admin port was able to connect.

Doing modem dialup still get the wrong pbx password issue. Think I may have to uninstall winspm and reinstall I think it is holding on to some key that it thinks is my pbx password before it passes it to the actual pbx...just my thought.

Since you can go onsite and direct connect, print the System Setup while directly connected and that will show you what the password is currently set to, whatever that may be.

Ford,

Still new to winSPM...when I go connect directly, what are the steps to print the system setup?

At the admin console attached to the pbx the new pasword is working so I am not understanding why it doesn't when I try to connect dialing *10 mode

To print system set-up: Menu, System Program, Start or Exit (depending upon if Legend or Magix), More, Print, then system set-up. Print it to a file, it will take a minute or two to complete and then it will open on your screen. There is a field for password that you can check and see what the system thinks is the password.

There is no password required when connected directly to the Admin port. There is a password required when connecting via modem - either locally or remotely. The Print ALL will show you the currrnt password setting - you do not need to print the entire report (which can take a long time). Abort/cancel the report after a few minutes - the passwrod will be on the first page.

It will also be shown on the "System Set Up" Report - usually about a 45 second download time.

Thanks all... gave the star to Telecomboy for posting directions first. I am an idiot.

I forgot that for some reason winSPM requires the craftpassword not the one I set.

Thanks again for all your help.

With ASA I was able to use passwords set by users.

PBXJay,
can you elaborate more?? I just had this happen on a Legend RLS 5 today...same issue and I am 4 hours from it!!! (I miss my old ROLMs!) The old craft password is not working...the new password (xxxxxx) just causes WinSPM to lock up and my CPU util to go to 100%!!! YIKES!
ASA?? I am not getting what you mean by that...

Mine was an issue of just entering ther wrong password. I had to physically verify password using the steps above and had a V-8 moment... DOH.

ASA was the old Avaya Site Administrator application that I had left on my laptop from when I supported a Definity G3Si PBX.

I was trying to use it to connect to the VM system with was same MAP5 Intuity Audix box. And it does a good job for that :)
