I am new to working on phone systems and found that our Merlin Legend V.2 system has a piece of software used to make adjustments. I have a couple of WinSPM questions. Is there a manual for the WinSPM? How do I plug into the Merlin system to use the WinSPM? When I loaded WinSPM I was asked for URLs of sites the WinSPM can go to for help, I thnk, are there specific URLs I should be putting in the properties?
Any other help for a rookie would be very helpful.

Well, if you have WINSPM, then you are not dealing with a LEGEND, it seems that you are dealing with a MAGIX.

To prove this, at any telephone, Touch INTERCOM (or SA) button and then the SPEAKER Button and dial * 0 5 , that's STAR ZERO 5.

That will tell us exactly what you are dealing with.

This would be a good place to start.

To "plug in" to your Merlin system you need a DB9 cable from your PC serial port to a DB9/DB25 convertor, then a 355AF adatpter, then a straight-thru LAN cable to the "Admin" port of your processor. There is no manual for WinSPM - but there are built-in "help" files.

I do not have an intercom button but when I press the speaker button and then *05 it reads Legend 7.0 v10.0. On my phone is a stamp that reads MLX-28D and I know the operators phone is a MLX-20L. Does this mean we have Legend version 10?

Yes, you have Legend Release 7.0, Version 10.0 software on your processor. And, the MLX-28D is a Legend, not Magix phone - although it will work on both systems.

You can find lots of helpful LEGEND manuals and help files on the Avaya website @ support.avaya.com. I believe the maintenance documents cover SPM and how to use it.

Search a little bit and be surprised what you may find!

I think the original question was about various websites that WinSPM asks you to specify when it's installed. This is just a convenience feature that lets you put links in the program which you can click to bring up those pages in your browser. It has nothing to do with the operation of WinSPM and is not needed. I don't think there is a separate WinSPM manual; there are references to it throughout the Legend docs.

Those "LINKS" are for "SOCKET MAGIX".

That's an additional hardware/software thing you can get that will allow you to use WINSPM to access Legend & Systems by way of an INTERNET connection, rather than having to dial them up.

It really and truly does have something to do with WINSPM, but only if you have SOCKET MAGIX.

You can just skip that section on the initial install of WINSPM.
