Hi,

I've got an NT4 WINS server doing it's netbios name resolution thang, which is working well, eg, when I type ping bob I get the correct ip address pinged. However, when I do a tracert on the netbios name it pings the correct IP address but only displays ThisAddressDoesNotExist as the netbios name... Obviously this aint mission critical, but it's really getting under my skin.

I did run DNS for a little while for some of the machines, but we've got rid of it now - maybe something to do with some kind of attempted reverse address lookup or something?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Pharquah.

Yes. Tracert doesn't use WINS for any of the hop name resolution, it only uses it for the initial destination address resolution. Without DNS you will see what you got.
