WINS is acting funky 1

I have a network that is broken up into two subnets, each at a different location. I have a PDC on one and a BDC on the other. The PDC is acting as the WINS server.

On the PDC side in network neighborhood, I can see everything on it's subnet but only the BDC on the other side and vice-versa for the other side. The funny thing is, is that when I reboot the BDC, both sides can see everything but after about fifteen minutes they can only see their respective subnets through network neighborhood.

At one point this was working fine. The only thing that has changed is that I reconfigured the network to allow for more hosts on each subnet. As soon as I did that I ran into this problem. [sig][/sig]

Well I doubt it's a WINS problem, it sounds like a browsing problem. What I would do is take two NT WS's that aren't going to be needed, and stick one on the first subnet, and the other on the second subnet. Then edit the following key in both workstations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\IsDomainMasterBrowser

This value should be True

Another key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList

This value should be Yes

On the servers edit the same keys, except IsDomainMasterBrowser should be False and MaintainServerList should be Auto or No. To be safe I would make it Auto. If you still have the problem, change it to No.

After all edits, reboot all machines. That should fix your problem. I suggested two workstations rather than the servers in case any problems pop-up, you won't interrupt your users. If it works, try reversing the edits, workstation edit become server edits and vice-versa.
