I run WinRoute Lite on my Windows 98 PC. Two nights ago my PC hung while shutting down, so I switched it off and rebooted. While running Scandisk my PC detected an error and said it had restored a recent backup of my registry.
When loading the drivers it crashed with "Windows protection error. You must reboot your PC".
When I first installed WinRoute I got the same message, because I had WinProxy already installed and there was some kind of conflict. So I booted step-by-step and told it not to load "wrdrv.vxd". This worked.
I have uninstalled winroute, I have re-installed it. I have checked and removed references to other proxy programs in the registry. I've run the installation for Windows 98 again. Still the only way I can get my PC to boot up normally is if I uninstall WinRoute.
Any ideas??? It had been working fine for months!
