Hi Guys,
I need your advice which will be much appreciated. What is the best way to set up WINROUTE in the real world? Now before anyone mentions - How long is a piece of string - I will spell out where I got so far.
WINROUTE [ WR ] on Machine 1 [ M1 ], IP 192.168.0.1: WR installed, proxy server off - no caching required. I assume I need to add the DNS details of my ISP DNS Servers? In the Interface section the RAS is setup with U/name and P/word. The Network Card is available. At this point NAT is enabled on the RAS I/Face or the N/wrk I/Face? Does NAT need to be configured any further in the advanced section? Any useful 'on the ground' tips in this area?
What is the best advice with regard to RULES? All PC's behind WR Machine need browser access, email access and/or the Mail Server software needs access [ say Mdaemon ].
I am not using DHCP in WR, all PC's have fixed internal IP.
How does NAT work in WR? Plain english guide .... in a few words.
Machine 2 [ M2 ], IP 192.168.0.10, needs access to net through M1 / WR. This client is configured with the GATEWAY IP address of WR, 192.168.0.1. The DNS is set to the same. This is correct yes? Now with the proxy server portion of WR turned off, what needs to happen with settings in IE6? Obviously the proxy server setup under Lan Settings in the options menu is left blank. If I have got this NAT thing right, WR should 'hear' the request for Net access as the browser is launched. Am I right so far or have I just strayed from the path?
What I am looking for is a fairly cast iron setup method which will do for most installations. Any advice / info to further this request would be gratefully appreciated. Tips, tricks, extra settings. I wish to get some real world feedback and experiences. I find the manuals a bit disjointed and not very comprehensive and / or KISS [ Keep it simple stupid ] at the same time.
Cheers and thanks all,
Remain in the Light,
Aidan
