My ISP switched from Wireless WiMax Static IP to PPPOE using
FinePoint WinPoet software... other than speeds decreasing some.. they reversed ..DL's are now in the range of:
Last Result: Winpoet Dallas Speakeasy 7-13 11:10pm
Download Speed: 1025 kbps (128.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2192 kbps (274 KB/sec transfer rate) they were the other way around... also now that Winpoet is loaded my Ethernet card gives Limited Connections and several sites I can not access.....Suggestion was to install a wireless router... set to PPPOE and all problem except reversed speed is cured... Are there some setting I should change from default settings.. other than MTU 1500 reset to MTU 1492.. "Limited connections is due to ISP fails to send me correct IP.." if I renew connection it simply sets there until I reboot, and redial

I don't know what your ISP is doing, but Winpoet is only needed when running Win '98 or Me. Windows 2000 and XP should NOT be runnining this software. You can build a dialer using network connections in XP. If you have a "smart" router (99% are) you set your username and password in the router and don't bother with windows dialer at all. If you have Winpoet installed, you'll need to uninstall it and let the router handle the authentication. If you don't they'll conflict with each other and keep knocking you offline (this is probably what's happening when you can't get certain web sites).
The limited connection warning is a glitch or Win XP SP2. After service pack 2 was released it gave this warning for 10 mbps ehternet connections, so either your network interface card and/or your modem is running at 10 mbps. Not really anything to worry about.

Thanks, correct on removing WinPoet... and using XP SP2 to configure..set name - password..moved shortcut to start.. and no more lost connections... Thanks for the GLITCH you mentioned...when I switch to wireless the connection moves to 100 mbps..and works great... and shows 11mbps on the laptop.. only minor problem now (imho) uploads are better than downloads
