WinPE Remote Access

Hello all! This is my first post on this web site.

I have recently been asked at work to find a way to connect remotely to WinPE. We use it in an OSD environment for WinXP.

What I mean by "Remote Access" is - to simply be able to type a UNC path to access the WinPE build or to be able to completely remote control WinPE.

I know WinPE has built in networking for outgoing connections, but is there a way to enable incoming connections? You can ping from the WinPE box but you can't ping the WinPE from an outside system.

Any help or links to where I can find the answer will be greatly appreciated!

Could you use BartPE rather than WinPE?

With the installed plugins BartPE seems more friendly to Networking.

BartPE (a mini XP self contained on a bootable CD and run from CD).

NO I cannot use BartPE, I have already thought of that plenty of times.

I work for a large bank in Charlotte, NC. and they are loyal to MS WinPE (got to keep Microsoft happy I guess).


I have seen where a couple of people have used RealVNC to connect remotely to WinPE, but there posts are leaving something out, it seems like I can almost get it to work but not quite there...

Yes. That is one of the posts that I was using, there is also another post similar to that but using a newer version of RealVNC.

I can get it to work great the way that post refers on an actual XP box but not WinPE....

Like I said before, it's like one thing is missing, just don't know what....:\

This is not something I have ever encountered myself, being a BartPE man, all I can suggest is you try your luck at a WinPE forum and see how you go.

Problem solved!!!!

Just had to disable the WinPE firewall.

"net stop ipnat"
