We are running a SAP landscape using Windows NT Server 4.0 service pack 4, Oracle 7.3.4.x and SAP R/3 3.1I. This is on an IBM Netfinity 7000-M10 server. The IBM server is at the latest Bios version. Using an external SCSI DLT 7000 drive, the backup hangs regularly, and hangs the server. In this state the server is totally inaccessible. You are forced to perform a cold re-boot of the server. We have upgraded to Backup Exec Ver 8.5 rc9 as suggested by the web site. This has not solved the problem. Is anyone else experiencing this problem, and how are you handling it? I am actually looking at switching to Arcserve.

I havem a somewhat similar situation; however, it is on NT running Oracle 8.1.7 and archserver. I do not have the Oracle agent on Arch serve running or installed. Arch serve will backup the files in read only, and Oracle will be in limbo. It happenned for a long time, and can not figure out what is wrong. However, when I decided to remove the backup on a daily basis, and do it weekly, Oracle seems to be running fine.

Although Arch Serve is in read only, Oracle thinks somebody else is running, and it will terminate. To get going, I stop/start Oracle instance, and it is fine.

The final solution for us, we move the backup using the Omni backup because it has the Oracle agent, which can alter backup etc, or shutdown on weekend the Oracle instance. This works very nicely.

I am not sure if this response help you.
