WinNT Parallel Port

I wrote a program which sends data to the parallel port which works fine running on win9x but when run on winnt I get the error - Privileged Instruction.. I assume it is because I used a parallel port component which is "C" based. Does anyone know of a parallel port component which will work with win9x and winnt?
