I have written an email relay program.
I had a problem with Exchange 5 in that emails coming from The Exchange server were encoded in winmail.dat format.
Does this happen in Exchange 2003 too?
If yes, is there a way to stop it happening?
i had this problem when using sophos mail monitor. if i enabled scan encrypted files i would get winmail.dat files. the only work around was to disabled the scanning of encrypted files. this problem occured on 5.5 and 2003
What if the email is being sent to a reader who cannot decipher winmail.dat files, such as a receiver using outlook express, how does the server know who it is sending to? I have difficulty in believing that all emails sent by exchange use the winmail.dat encryption. Microsoft would be highly irresponsible if they would did that.
