Hi,

A coworker has fiddled with something on her machine or opened something she shouldnt have, her machine iswinxp pro, and now she is having internet explorer problems and other nuisances that are all seemingly caused by the module wininet.dll.

Log on to her domain user account, it starts up... when first logged in if you open internet explorer nothing happens, it doesn't open...

ctrl-alt-del, taskmanager, processes
I can see IExplorer here but it doesnt start.

Other freaky things such as My Computer won't open either, just the hourgalss and then nothing

I Click on end process for internet explorer AND Explorer, and then new task- "explorer", restarting it, and then I can get into 'my computer' and IE starts if clicked, gets as far as web-site found, and then it just hangs up, end task, and the error report says there is a problem with
wininet.dll....

Tried various ways of fixing this uninstalled/reinstalled IE, tried "regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll" from command prompt...

Tried "rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt" but this file doesnt exist or cannot be found.

Tried clearing cookies/cache/temp files but this also hangs
Tried ad-aware, buit it hasnt found anything new.

How come explorer freezes, IE freezes, and how do in reinstall IE or fix the module wininet.dll otherwise???

Her local machine account, when logged into this account, no problems, but when you log into her domain account nothing works any more....

Has the problem surface recently enough that you could have her sav e recent work to network or CD, and then restore the system to an earlier save point? That should back her out of whatever she installed.
