I am attempting to use an older version of Coreldraw (8) and hitting multiple issues, which I would like to avoid a couple of hundred in an upgrade to fix, since I don't use it often.

The overriding issue seems to be incompatibility with or missing ntdll.dll. Vista graciously offers to find a solution on line when zonking the program, then just slips out the back door. (Really thing more and more about going for XP)

Vista comes sans winhlp32, apparently, but a crippled version can be downloaded. Having done that, however, I still get crashes every time I try to access help or many other things.

Any thoughts on this problem?

And please see next post regarding Corel media indexer.

There is also the Application Compatibility Toolkit to look at. Some details and basic instructions are in this thread.

Vista - same file name, different file contents

Have you tried the Run As Administrator option by right-clicking on the Shortcut or .exe?

Thanks both. I will try the compatibility setting idea. Since I am admin, the virtual admin issue isn't an answer, although it is obvious that some dll's would change with the new program.

I suspect that I overwrote the original with an older file when installing an older program version - cute MS answer:

If this doesn't resolve the problem, look at the manufacturer's site to see if they offer a fix - they do, and it costs a couple of hundred dollars.

My old Adobe Illustrator loaded quite nicely, thank you, and I may just have to get ahead with that one.
