I have a Compaq Evo N1005v with an internal Conexant HFSi V92 Mini PCI modem. This has given me no problems at all until recently.
I've tried to use the modem for the first time in a couple of weeks, and it seems to dial with no problems until it gets to the point where it registers/authenticates to the ISP. It then locks up, and if you wait long enough you will occasionally get the mouse back for a couple of seconds before it locks again. Eventually, it will actually tell you that you're connected, but by then you have to reboot to get the laptop working again.
I found that a colleague of mine has just started to experience exactly the same problem, and the only thing we have in common is that we've both recently applied all updates listed under WindowsUpdate.com. I've looked on the Net for updated drivers for the modem, and we already have the most up to date drivers available.
Has anyone had the same experience, or do you have any ideas how I can fix this without a major re-install ?
TIA.
Rob
