I am running Windows98 2nd Edition on a clone
With Windows95, the Backup feature under
Accessories allowed you to literally automate
backups. I did this by creating a Desktop shortcut that pointed to the Backup executable then added the name of an existing
backup job as an argument to this shortcut.
I had previously configured that backup job to save specific files on my hard disk. This approach works great and provides one click backup.
Now in Win98, the (Seagate) Backup executable
is still available but adding an argument to
the command line of the shortcut (name of an existing backup job) does nothing. It is obvious you now have to open the Backup program then make sure your desired backup job is the current one then click on Start to get that backup job to begin. Do I have to go to some 3rd party package to get going with an automated backup? Thanks for your input.
The best automatic backup that I know is provided by Iomega (Zip drive Manufacturer)
Go on the Net and log on to <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> and go to download: the program (free) is called QuickSync, but you need to have either a Zip drive 100 MB or 250 MB. or a Jaz Drive (1.2 GB).
It will back up your file you are working on every 15 minutes and when you use the "Save as" to your C: drive (or D:whatever you use for your data) it will automatically back it up also on the ZIP drive. QuickSync will backup one folder and all the folders beneath it. So I created a folder called E:\Data\, so all the folders and files under E:\Data\ will be backup by QuickSync program. It works like a charm.
Let me know what you think.

Charles Keller, Kelowna, BC
cgkeller@home.com - 6 Aug.2000
