After putting an older system I have back together, everything was working fine. Then I had to take out the hard drive to use it for another transfer emergency. After that, I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled Windows98 (2nd edition), but it keeps telling me that it can't find a mouse. I've tried letting Windows search for it. I've tried installing it manually. I've even tried to install different types of mouse devices, but nothing seems to be working. Is there something I am overlooking???

Hi,

Ok you say you have taken out the hard drive and replaced it with another, are you sure that when you did this, you didn't accidently knock out the port connection to the main board?

1. Check the cable
2. Remove the mouse from Device Manager
3. Restart
4. If that doesn't automatically fix the problem, try a different mouse.

I would say it is a physical issue, not software.

Check the mouse is whole, check the cable is whole. Check the port is connected, the cable is connected to the motherboard (if applicable).

it sounds hardware but just in case check irq12 that where the mouse should be most thing wont touch irq12 but its worth a shot.
