HDD is detected in BIOS on ID0 or ID2 whatever I select, but then after boot of OS from IDE drive, i don't see any SCSI HDD being detected by Win2k. The only thing I can see are my regular IDE-drives.

I checked hardware manager where I can't see it either.
New hardware detection didn't help me, as well.

After all, I checked the Computer Administration which usually shows all HDDs and CD-ROMs etc...(everything which uses drive letters) - No result!

I am using an adaptec2940 SCSI controller and have a Seagate ST34572W HDD with ID0

HELP, please!

A simple preliminary step is to check the cables. Try another power connector. Also, try another data (ribbon) cable to make sure it is good. Also, make sure that pin 1 on both ends of the data cable are on pin 1 of the connector.

Then, how old is your mobo? The reason I ask is that some older PCI chipsets are not PCI REV 2.0 compliant, which means essentially that it will not support PCI to PCI Bridges (PPB). In such a case, a PCI SCSI adapter will not be recognized.

If that is not the case with the chipset, the BIOS itself may not recognize it because it doesn't support PPB. You might check for a BIOS upgrade. If the BIOS does support it, check in CMOS to see if the controller is enabled and the HD settings are correct.

A defective expansion card can be causing the problem. Remove all cards and see if the SCSI is then recognized. If it is, replace the cards one at a time until you find the defective one.

See if any of these steps helps you. If not, come back, and perhaps I or someone else here can assist you further.

I'd suggest booting to a floppy disk and then watching to see if the SCSI adaptor card's BIOS is recognised after POST. If it ain't, then surely there's no way W2K will recognise it!

Assuming it IS being recognised, then I think you'll need to add the 2940 drivers manually from within W2K.

When you first install W2K it asks for you to press F6 if there are third party drivers to install for such add in cards as a scsi card.
Look in device manager under IDE controllers and see if the scsi was found and disabled due to no drivers present. If so install the drivers. If not check adaptec's site for installation procedure for adding a scsi controller to W2K after OS installation.
