Windows XP Pro version 512 RAM. New installation. When some icons are opened (My computer, control panel, network neighborhood, etc. the windows will partially display and hang for a minute or two before displaying the contents. Have already removed all the effects and increased the size of the page file. Any other suggestions?

Can you list some of the other specs of your machine? (processor, graphics card, etc)

Also, have you tried another RAM stick in your PC? And have you upgraded any drivers? I think finding the newest driver for your video card might solve your problem (it has for me in the past)

Type MSCONFIG in the Run Box to see what is loading at start up.

Try disabling any unrequired services that are running in background.
