Does anybody know how to prevent programs loading in the system tray without actually uninstalling them? (Win XP)

About a month ago I read in a magazine how to do it and you typed a command via the Run menu and it brought up a window where you could manage your system tray but I can't find the magazine article!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick.

Do you want them to load but stay hidden? Or not load at all, but be available to run manually?

For the first one, right-click the taskbar, hit Properties. Click Customize and set the behavior for each icon.

To prevent stuff from loading in the first place, type Start -> run and type MSCONFIG. You want the Startup tab at the top.

Note -- don't just go through and disable stuff willy-nilly, or you can break important things.

Works on all versions 32 bit windows
Start>Run> "msconfig"
Then startup tab and uncheck stuff u dont to lad.
The only real diffrence i see with them both (XP and 98 version of msconfig) is there are diffrent options for boot

Hi,

Works on all versions 32 bit windows
Start>Run> "msconfig"

This does not exist on my W2K Advanced Server or W2K Professional, so maybe 'Most' versions, not 'All'

If you copied the XP msconfig.exe, it would work fine under Win2k.

So, it is truthful that it "works" under Win2k.

Hi,
Good Point; After all, the1bigboy never said it was available , just that it runs..[smile]
