Hi people.

I had this problem, im working with one Laptop Fujitsu S Series S6010.

I want to install windows xp sp2 from fresh, but went i want to format the HD with NTFS or FAT32 using different partition sizes it fails, never get to 1%, the disk is doing some sounds, but i never get 1%.

I was thinking that maybe the DVD reader is bad, but i can install Linux Centos 4.4 and FreeBSD 6.2 in the same HD, i can work with them, but windows xp fails.

I test the installation with other HD and works, them some have an idea why i can install Linux/Unix in the HD but i cannot install Windows XP?

This is the second time that i found this problem with Windows XP, even in my laptop using another HD XP SP2 fails.

The other laptop is one Dell C840.

Anything about will be apreciated, thanks all for your time!!!

I take it that it is the Formatting that is failing?

What other partitions, possibly hidden recovery partitions etc. are on this hard drive?

What type of hard drive is it, IDE or SATA etc?

The drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software to thoroughly check out the condition of the drive. This software is self bootable.

Hi linney.

Yes the formating process is went the system doesn't respond. Hidden, mmmm maybe but went i install FreeBSD or Linux the system format all the HD, and those OS didn't see any extra partition.

The HD interface is IDE. Other issue is that this laptop doesn't have a floppy drive, the manual says that is USB, well i don't that one right now.

Another person tell me that maybe Windows XP is having problems with the famous 1024 cilinder?

I will inform you about the progress, thanks!!!

Try using Dariks Boot And Nuke to erase the hard drive clean. I have noticed that if I've installed Linux on a system sometimes the hard drive wont erase properly. Not sure why but wiping it clean always did the trick. I've also had problems where something in the old XP OS died and wouldn't reload so, again, wiped the drive clean and it worked just fine. Good luck!

Cheers
Rob

If someone helps you, leave them a star. It is just a nice way to say "Thank you"
