windows xp shutdown and freezing 1

hi, i am running xp pro and have probs with it shuting down sometimes it doesn`t want too and other times it hangs? also when using xp it freezes for a few seconds and runs slow, any ideas plz help

Make sure XP is fully patched and updated, some older patches caused performance problems and have been updated to fix this.
