When I shutdown the computer, it closes down to the power off stage then restarts.
In Startup and Recovery the "System Failure" Automatic Restart is unchecked.
The Log %SystemRoot%\Minidump does not have any data.

I also checked BIOS and wake up is disabled.
Is there a registry entry that can be changed or a log of the shutdown event.

I would appreciate some further advise.

Can you clarify that the machine has actually powered down (screen has gone black, fans stop, etc.) before it restarts itself?

It is not a faulty power button on the front of the machine, is it?

You can look at the Event Viewer log. Event Viewer is found in Computer Management via right clicking on My Computer. Any errors you find right click on them for further information.

Have a look at the various other non=Bios "Wake On" events included in the computer setup.

This thread talks about "Wake On Events".

I thank you both for the reply.
linney,
The computer has just about closed down, the computer fan is stopping, the sceen then says "No Signal", then the fan starts again and the computer reboots.
I have checked the BIOS for any wake up settings and they are not active.
Have disabled Restart on Error.
Looking in the event log, nothing appears apparent.

OK, with that information we can exclude any Windows problem...

meaning it is hardware, where two things come to mind:

1. temporarily remove the RESET BUTTON cable...

2. go into the BIOS setup and hit F5 (for Default values) and then F10 (EXIT & SAVE) and confirm...

Speaking of Bios, have you checked to see if there is any updated Bios available, and whether any such available update fixes any Wake on, Hibernation, or Standby, problems?

There was a recent post in another section that is exactly what you decribed is happening to you. They came to the conclusion that the power supply was faulty. The restarts stopped after replacing the power supply. If you have an extra PSU sitting around it may be worth a shot on swapping it out.

linney,
Solved the problem.
I went to the BIOS and noted all the settings, then reset back to default.
I again noted all the settings and only one changed, that being Legacy USB Support Keyboard and Mouse, I set this back from Disabled to Keyboard and Mouse and rebooted, then shutdown, all works OK.
I do not know why as I had set it back the same when I was having problems.
I thank everyone for assisting.

Glad you have resolved the problem (for the time being), actually it was Ben who mentioned the Bios reset, I would have (eventually, perhaps). I just added to his suggestion.

BadBigBen,
Sorry for the incorrect recognition.
Once more thank you all for the help.
