I have 3 new Dell Dimension with Windows XP Pro SP1 and Norton AV 2002 factory installed.
These boxes are attached to a Netware 6 server with the latest Netware Client installed.
When I save a file from either MS Word 2000, Excel or even just coping files to the network drive from any of these PCs it takes a long time. File saves can take from 10 to 20 seconds. If I save to my local drive it is fast.
However when I disable Norton AV auto protect the saves are immediate on the network drives.
Now before anyone tries to tell me to be sure I am on a 100mb network you should know that the other 30 PCs in the office are on Windows 98SE running the same version of Norton AV and these PCs do not have the problem, and I am on a 100mb. But because the other PCs are fine 10mb or 100mb should not matter one would think. I also wanted to know if it was something to do with the new hardware and so one of the new machines was retrofitted with Windows98 and it too works fine.
I had the same slow save problem at another client that was running NT servers and burned about 15 hrs trying to resolve this. I ended up putting them on Windows 98 SE. They love it for now.
Someone out there must have had this problem also this is a typical office network environment.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
