Windows XP Pro sp3 connectio issue

Hello everybody,

I have an issue with my windows xp pro, i just installed sp3 on the pc, and after that i did not have any connection with my application or internet, even if i can ping my gateway or a server from my network i cannot access any of my local application or the internet not even my mail client which is Lotus Notes, so nothing at all, the weird thing is that i get good responses from pinging the gateway, dns server, i forgot to say that my pc is set to dhcp, i also made an tracert to a server from another country but from my network with no problem, also i can connect from another computer remote to my problem computer.....does anyone have any idea????

Check the windows firewall... turn it off as a test...

also issue the following command in a DOS BOX:

netsh winsock reset catalog


then reboot...

Guys thanks for your quick support, i did not get the chance to play a lot with the computer to discover the problem because it was a pretty urgent thing so i made a restore point from a day when it was working, and after that it worked but the laptop returned to sp2, Linney yes, my office is using symantec antivirus, i made a little research yesterday but i did not get to relate to symantec , it was very strange, i must say the firewall was off, so it wasn't for sure from firewall....i would have liked to play with it a little bit longer to try all the tips so i could help others if they met the same error......so thanks a lot again
