When attempting to do a clean install of XP Pro, setup stops responding during "installing devices" phase.

System: PIII-800EB on Soyo motherbd, 512MB memory, 1-quantum 20GB hard, 2-primary partitions( partition1=win98, partition2-xp pro). Any help is appreciated.

Verify that your hardware device drivers and your system BIOS (basic input/output system) are the latest available.

You may want to visit your computer manufacturer’s Web site for information on your computer’s current BIOS and how to obtain BIOS upgrades.

If you have any USB devices attached to your computer disconnect them while you install XP. Install them after XP is loaded.

Some links for you if you still have trouble.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had already researched Google and Microsoft for possible solutions. Seems most appear to be caused by the video card. I had tried two different AGP cards with no result.

I was able to get around the hang by removing the Linksys LNE100TXv4.1 NIC. That did allow the setup to complete successfully. However after installation I reinstalled the Linksys NIC and SP would not boot. It went into Safemode and hung on loading the MUD.SYS driver. Took the NIC card out and it booted successfully. Since it was late I powered off and went to bed.

This morning I reinstalled the Linksys NIC and XP PRO booted up fine with no more problems. It has me puzzled as to why it worked this morning. Did not find any relavent info on MS, Soyo or Linksys sites.
