Open disk management.
Right click on the my computer icon and select manage.

In the HDD disk bar there should be space marked
as unallocated .
Right click and make new partition .
Format it . and assign/change a suitable drive letter.

Jay,

Can you explain a bit more what you're trying to do, please?

'what are the steps do i need to loose all the data in the existing disk' - suggests you want to wipe disk and start again. So, is that true (reinstalling XP? - just boot from XP install CD - its got its own partitioning tools to remove/create/format partitions) Or do you need to split existing partition? (need third party software, like Partition magic).
