I've just configured my first Windows XP Pro computer on my network (all others are Windows 2000 Pro) and I see on my firewall monitor that the XP computer has opened a connection to a Microsoft address on port 1755. From what I've read this is a Windows Media port connection.
Well, I don't want this connection!
I've uninstall the Media Player but it's still there. I can block the port on my firewall or install ZoneAlarm locally, but what I really want to do is stop the request at the source - Windows XP.
Any ideas on how to shut my computer up?
Thanks
Mike

Thanks bcaster. If I can't find an internal fix, I'll give anti-spy a go.

gpedit.msc typethis into your run command line and this will bring up a group policy. Look in there to see if that command is being called from there

Microsoft has an IANA registration for port 1755 for streaming video through its Net Show feature.
