My windows XP seems to feeze between 15 to 40 seconds at a time. Especially when I use IE6.0, it freezes up often. I could get taskmon by Ctrl, Alt, del. But can't do anything else. It seems to occur more frequently now than before. Is it windows Xp or IE?

Thanx alot.

I picked this snippet up somewhere on the net. It might help you.

"This may will help. I found this at one of microsoft's newsgroups

Go to page 2 and look for a thread that is labeled "Delay in 5.5 and 6.0"

Here is the a copy of the email/newsgroup if your interested:

Thanks Henri.

1) close IE
2) Browse to \winnt\downloaded program files
3) If there's one there called 'Tracker Class', right
click on it and select Remove.
- otherwise -
right click on all of them and select Remove

Re-start IE and you should be all set.

The problem is likely a spyware activex object ('Tracker
Class') that tries to report your surfing habits to a
server in California. That server has gone down, so it
after *quite* a while, it gives up and gives control back
to IE.

IE 6 only:
Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing > Uncheck the
Enable 3rd
party browser extensions

An other solution.

I was having a tremendous problem with IE 5.5 freezing up until I found your
newsgroup post on Google. I had tried everything, from installing new video
drivers to running Ad-Aware, but BHOCop did the trick just as I was at my
wits' end. Thank you a thousand times over for this tip!

Download and run this utility.

BHO Cop (Browser Helper Object)
An additional tool to complement AdAware, listed above.
The integration of BHOs with IE offers rich opportunities but can cause
trouble. Poorly written BHOs can bring about IE crashes. Also, BHOs can
conflict with each other, causing problems with IE that can be very
difficult to diagnose and fix, because there's no way for you to know that a
BHO has been installed.

Here's a better solution - don't use IE, Outlook, or Windows Media Player, unless you want Microsoft spying on your every move. There are several IE alternatives out there. My favorite is Opera, which I'm using right now. Try it out at or
